On your next trip to Korea, stop by Dongbaeksom Island to tour Nurimaru APEC House.

“Nurimaru” is a combination of the Korean words for “world” and “summit,” as this domed building was constructed for the 2005 Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting. Since then, it has been used for memorials and conferences, and also offers visitors a stunning view of the beach.

In appearance, Nurimaru APEC House resembles an extremely modern take on a jeongja, or a Korean pavilion. Despite its size, the three-story building, with its sloping domed roof, blends seamlessly in with the greenery of its surroundings.
